What Does Bitter Taste In Mouth Indicate?

I have a bitter taste on my lips and mouth. All foods taste very bitter. I eat a very healthy diet, do not smoke, brush my teeth and floss daily. I also have been bonking on my runs, even if I have eaten a protein filled food, such as chicken, avocado sandwich before my runs. And I feel like I might vomit through out the day. not pregnant.

Hi,

A bitter taste in the mouth can be caused by several factors, including:
- GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease): When stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, it can cause a bitter taste in the mouth.
- Medications: Certain medications can cause a bitter taste in the mouth as a side effect.
- Dental issues: Gum disease, cavities, and other dental problems can lead to a bitter taste in the mouth.
- Infections: Sinus infections, respiratory infections, and other infections can cause a bitter taste in the mouth.
- Dehydration: Not drinking enough water can cause a bitter taste in the mouth.
- Nutritional deficiencies: Deficiencies in certain nutrients, such as zinc and vitamin B12, can cause a bitter taste in the mouth.
- Liver or gallbladder issues: Liver or gallbladder issues can cause a buildup of bile in the mouth, leading to a bitter taste.

In your case, the bitter taste in your mouth, along with nausea and poor exercise performance, may indicate a possible gastrointestinal issue, such as GERD or liver/gallbladder issues. It is recommended that you see a healthcare professional for further evaluation and diagnosis.

Hello,

Having a chronic bitter taste in your mouth, regardless of what you’re eating or drinking is indicative of underlying health condition. Get clinically examined by a GP to rule out health conditions that may cause such symptoms like Diabetes mellitus, Sjögren syndrome, dental issues, dry mouth, acid reflux, illness, infections or side effects of certain medications.

You may be referred to an ENT if required. Get all required blood tests and imaging tests done. When the underlying heath issue is treated the symptoms will reduce and go away. Your treatment will depend on the diagnosis made. In the meantime, maintain good oral hygiene, floss daily.

To prevent acid reflux avoiding spicy or fatty foods, do not smoke tobacco products, limiting alcohol, and eating small, frequent meals instead of large ones. Take adequate quantity of water and fluids and stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
