What Does Antinuclear Antibody(ANA) Titer Value In The Report Suggest?

HELLO.I have a question for you,My ANA TITER is 1:160, Pattern is SPECKLED, ANA TITER 2 is 1:160, and Pattern 2 is HOMOGENO. Do you know what this could mean? I have horrible headaches and my body just hurts and I am ALWAYS so sleepy. I could just close my eyes and fall asleep. Do you think I should be worried about anything?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
ANA levels are done to look for autoimmune disorder- systemic lupus erhthematosus (SLE).
SLE is a multi system disorder which affects multiple systems and produces varied symptoms.
The ANA titres are raised and there is ANA positivity.
Thus, you need to consult your physician for clinical assessment and other specific investigations- anti dsDNA to confirm SLE.
Once SLE is diagnosed, appropriate treatment can be instituted.

Thanks and take care

Thanks for your question on HCM.
Your ANA report is positive. ANA is screening test for connective tissue diseases (CTD). both patterns of ANA are positive in your report, so possibility of SLE (Lupus) is more.
So we need to do full ANA profile.
This includes Anti ds DNA, Anti Sm antibodies (for lupus), Anti Ro, anti La antibodies (for sjogren's symdrome) and many other antibodies to rule out other CTDs.
So consult Rheumatologist and discuss all these.
