Radiologist 's  Response
Hello

Findings may suggest polycystic ovarian disease(PCOD).
PCOD has typical appearance in USG and it is indicated by increase ovarian size, hyperechoic stroma and necklace appearance of cysts(anechoic follicles)arranged in periphery.

PCOD should be confirmed by clinical correlation and biochemical markers like hormonal assay for PCOD.
PCOD is a curable disease and mostly it is treated by medicines.Surgical intervention is required in very few cases.

Take Care

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

The findings of multiple follicles in both ovaries with increased echogenicity indicates the possibility of polycystic ovaries. This is a hormonal imbalance related condition seen in young women. This has to be diagnosed by matching clinical features like increase in weight, male pattern hair growth and irregular or less flow during periods and can be related to decreased fertility. This also requires certain blood tests to be done. Usually a treatment with hormone pills for some months under supervision of your doctors treats this condition. Please do not worry.
