What Does An Elevated T4 Level Despite A Normal TSH Level Indicate?
I have been treated for hypothyroidism for 20 years. The last few years there has been a conflict with my test results. My TSH is showing ok with the dose of levithyroxin i m on, but the T4 is showing elevated. My endocrinologist has been lowering my levithyroxin dosage each time my results show this. All the while I am feeling awful, very fatigued, itchy dry skin and my hair is getting thinner. I am also having a bad time losing weight. My doctor seems not to be listening to me. What is your opinion?
Hi, Thank you for your query. I have read your query and understood your concerns. Treatment of your Hypothyroidism depends upon TSH values during followup. if TSH is between 1.5 to 2.5 mIU/l your levothyroxine dose can be reduced by 25 micrograms/dl ( on discretion of your treating physician). As per your concern regarding raised T4 level you don't need to be worried about that , when a patient is on levothyroxine T4 levels will be raised that's why TSH level alone is consordered for titrating your levothyroxine dose. I hope I have addressed your concern well. if satisfied please close this query with a good rating. Thank you wishing you good health
