What Does An Altered Sense Of Smell And Taste Indicate?

I have the smell of alcohol on my breath many hours after a drink, a bad taste in my mouth, a feeling of churning in my guts or cramping, or queasiness and sometimes a feeling of not being able to take a deep breath. Also, intermittent, random rapid &/or irregular heartbeat.

Hi Dear ,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of altered sense of smell and taste which could be due to oral infection, improper hygiene of oral cavity, nerve dysfunction like glossopharyngeal and impingement and could be due to side effects of certain medications.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to

- Chew on sugar free candies and stimulate salivary flow.

- Drink plenty of water and fluids.

- Maintain proper oral hygiene and use oral corticosteroids as well because it will resume back taste.

- Take diet rich in zinc supplements as that will recover taste.

You should visit neurologist once as well and take medications which lower down autoimmune or nervous system disorder if it is due to nerve dysfunction.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
