What Does An AFI Level Of 8 During 22 Weeks Of Pregnancy Indicate?

Hello doctor I hv 22 weeks pregnancy &in ssonography the AFI is 8. I hv problem of leakage of water time to time from last 15 days.my doctor is giving me astymin -3 200ML EVERY WEEK & arginine powder 20ml daily. doctor is saying that there is very least hope of saving my baby. She has advised me to take complete bed rest. It s my first baby &I don t want to loose it. Kindly suggest me what to do???? Thanks.

Hi,

Amniotic fluid index (AFI) is a quantitative estimate of amniotic fluid. It is an indicator of fetal well-being. An AFI between 8 - 18 is considered normal.

However, since you have a problem with leakage of water and AFI being 8, it carries a certain amount of risk for developing a fetus.

Kindly take the medications prescribed as they would improve the blood circulation to the developing fetus, thus providing adequate nutrients for its development.

Also, take complete bed rest and do the necessary follow-up as advised.
