What Does A White Pimple On Inner Thigh Indicate?

Hi, I noticed my daughter had a white pimply looking thing on her inner thigh in the summertime. I asked her pediatrician about it and she said that it was Molluscum Contagiosum and that it would clear in a year or so. Well, it started to spread and she got several of these bumps...but they are angry looking red and increasing fast. I have read that eczema can be severe in the areas of the molluscum (she has eczema on the back and inside of her thighs. I went back to the pediatrician and she gave me veregen to apply to the white pimply things. once I started to do this, it spread faster in a week than it did in 7 months. I told my pediatrician about it and she told me to stop using veregen, prescribed an antibiotic and gave me a referral to a dermatologist (who can t see us till feb.!) and she didn t even want my daughter to come in so she could look at it! I am very worried that we won t be able to get this under control.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

Molluscum is a viral infection and it is a quite common skin infection in healthy children.
Most of the patients have just a few lesions and they can be either observed till they disappear over a period of time.
However, parents often become concerned if infection continues to spread to other areas.
Ultimately the infection resolves, either on its own or when aided with treatment.
Various treatment options are available.
Topical Imiquimod and topical tretinoin are applied by there parents once daily at night and may take up to 6-12 weeks for complete resolution and is the only feasible option in small children.
Trichloroacetic acid, Phenol may also be applied with an applicator. Results are quicker though these may cause some burning sensation and therefore is only for slightly older children etc.
I suggest that you visit a dermatologist in your region for the needful.

Regards
