What Does A Small Lump Under The Armpit Indicate?

I had a small dry bean sized lump on the side of my breast under my arm pit that was checked last December and diagnossed through a mammogram as a cyst. Over last 10 days it has doubled or tripled in size, is red, warm and tender to touch. It looks infected. I imagine that I might need antibiotics and need to go to a Dr for the prescription, but should I get another mammogram?

Hi,

What problems you describing of appears that the lump seems to be infected. Hence, at this stage, another mammogram will not help. All it needs is clinical evaluation and might require a course of antibiotics and analgesic medications. Once the infection subsides, further evaluation and management can be done.

Kindly consult Surgeon in this regard for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
