What Does A Red Rash On The Shoulder Indicate?

Hi, I have a red patch on my shoulder, with raised bumps, but no blisters for about the last 8 days. It does not itch, or is tender nor is there any pain present. I have no fever or any other symptoms My best guess is it may be some kind of contact dermatitis. I have tried aloe Vera, heat compresses and cold compresses, with no improvement. Any guesses ?? Thank you for any assistance you can give.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You might be having some allergic rashes. Allergy can develop due to several reasons- some foods like egg, fish, pollen grains, animal hair, nylon, terylene clothes. Just try to find out what you are allergic to & avoid it. Try home remedies. Apply coconut oil daily three times a day for one week. Contact dermatitis can also be a possibility. Avoid scratching your irritated skin if you think you may be experiencing contact dermatitis. Scratching can make the irritation worse or even cause a skin infection that requires antibiotics. Instead, clean your skin with soap and lukewarm water to remove any irritants. One way to soothe the rash is to mix two tablespoons of baking soda in cool water. Soak a washcloth in the cool water, wring it out, and apply it to the skin. Other anti-itch treatments include calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream. You can purchase these items at most drugstores. Your doctor can prescribe a more potent steroid cream if these creams don’t soothe your skin. Taking an antihistamine drug such as diphenhydramine can help to cut down on itching and reduce your allergic response.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
