What Does A Rash And Burning Sensation On The Back Indicate?

My 10 year old son has a rash that resembles a cold sore area and says the back of his burns-it started after he ate a couple hot fries potatoe chips has ate them before no problem-its been couple of days and not getting better he is now very drowsy but its also late past bedtime so... should i take him to emergency department tonight?
