What Does A Lump On The Temple Indicate?

I hit my head on hardwood steps standing up. I hit it right on the vein in my left temple. There is definitely a knot there from the hit and the vein there seems to be bulging. These veins in my head bulge from time to time normally when I am active but this definitely came on from the hit. Should I be concerned?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is nothing but a hematoma, it is collection of blood underneath the skin that develop after a blunt trauma. It has got no relation with veins over the temple area and it is not coming from the vein. Generally it will subside by it own even without treatment. You can apply ice packs over the region for faster healing. Take analgesics like Paracetamol in case of pain.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
