What Does A Lump Behind The Neck Indicate?

I have a bump in the back of my neck which has been there for several years! My wife has attempted on several occasions to squeeze out the substance which is brown in color and extremely smelly! The bump never goes away it goes down just to rise up again! I have a similar small one on my chest which has the same smelly odor and never goes down permanently! Now my neck is experiencing pain! I went to my doctor and he said I m suffering from a pinch nerve! What do you say?

Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
There are a number of skin conditions that cause lumps and bumps to appear on the surface or just below the skin.It can be a skin cyst,a folliculitis etc.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
-Do not squeeze, scratch, drain, open (lance), or puncture the lump.
-Keep the area clean by washing the lump and surrounding skin well with an antibacterial soap.
-Apply warm, wet washcloths to the lump for 20 to 30 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day.
-If the lump begins to drain pus, apply a bandage to keep the draining material from spreading.
If it doesn't go away see a local doctor.
