What Does A Large Oval Bruise On The Left Side Of The Abdomen Indicate?

I have a large oval (approx. 4 in. X 2 in.) bruised area on left side of my belly about 1 1/2 in. above my belly button. No pain. Oval appears distended but soft to the touch. No trauma. Approx. Tuesday afternoon, I felt a sudden pain in that area but didn t notice any bruising until yesterday afternoon (Friday). 52 yo f.

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms could be related to an abdominal herniation or a local bleeding. For this reason, I recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and an abdominal ultrasound. Some blood lab tests (complete blood count, coagulation tests, PCR, ESR) are needed too.
