What Does A Dark Red Spot On The Roof Of The Mouth Indicate?

I have a small dark red spot in the middle of the roof of my mouth. More towards the back. I noticed it about 4yrs. ago. This was after a week or so of bleeding from that area. Sometimes in large amounts. I applied pressure with a cotton pad with some peroxide on it. Kit would happen after eating or sleeping. After a week it stopped.
Yesterday it started up again. I think I might be putting pressure with my tongue while I sleep because I woke up to some blood clots on my tongue today. It does NOT hurt. I have to be very careful when eating so it doesn't start again. It took longer at breakfast today (5min) to stop with pressure from cotton & peroxide.
The small red spot hasn't changed in 4 yrs. & this is the 1st it started again. I am a 66 yr. old female & in very good health. I've never smoked. Why is this happening again ?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain a red spot over the roof of mouth, more towards the back seems to be probably due to formation of Hemangioma that is an arterio-venous malformation and are formed due to abnormal accumulation/collection of blood vessels..

As it is related to blood vessels it bleed profusely on slight stimulation..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis..

In case of hemangioma it can be regressed using sclerosing agents..
At times steroid injections can be advised for regression of the lesion..
In case if it recurs or does not improve surgical removal can also be advised..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
