What Does A A Spot On The Lungs Indicate?

Friday I went to the urologist for annual check up, Now cancer free for 3 years, I left and stopped at 2 stores about 1/2 hour, then was tired and thought I had gotten up early so I drove home, ate something and read a book. Felt funny and extremely tired, put on my nightgown and went to bed. I had the chills so bad my teeth were chattering. I had 2 quilts double folded on top and could not stop shivering. Finally called my son and it was too late to go to a local urgent care. drove myself to 212 urgent care. I was there for 5 hours. I had to ask them to take a urine sample, explained I had just been to urologist. The gave me a cat scan, drew blood 2 times, then gave me a lung xray. the only thing they could come up with was pneumonia based on an elevated white count and a spot on my lung. The spot on my lung has been there 45 years which I explained to them. they ordered azithromycin (alergic to pennicillian) andcefdinir. I started the azithromycin but not the other. I am still flucuating between hot and cold(but no chills). Is pneumonia a correct dignosis or should it be explored further? Dale Alice Kroc

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM

Pneumonia is diagnosed by symptoms background and chest Xray findings.
Spot they must have described to you must be an area of pneumonia, rather than the old spot in lungs. Sputum analysis and culture can confirm the organism and sensitivity to antibiotics.
Please continue azithromycin and cefdinir as prescribed.
Symptoms of chills, tiredness, elevated white count are highly suggestive of possible pneumonia. The Xray must have also shown positive findings for which your doctor must have started antibiotics.

Hope this answers your question
