What Does Flair Signal Abnormality In The Periventricular White Matter Mean?

I had an olfactory Meningioma removed in July 2011. I had a follow up MRI this week and it says cortical involution changes are noted also there is increased T2 and FLAIR signal abnormality in the periventricular white matter. Intracranial flow voids are grossly unremarkable. This sounds scarey to me.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your past history and the MRI brain findings.

First of all, I would like to reassure you that these do not suggest any serious brain disease.

Periventricular increased signals are a non-specific finding and can occur in a variety of situations. For example, it can be due to ischemia (decreased blood flow to brain in a high bP patient), demyelination, migraine, etc. We need to correlate the MRI findings with your symptoms. So, if you can get back with your symptoms, we would be able to give you a better opinion.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
