What Does 2.2x1.6 Cm Left Infrahilar Lymph Node Mean?

wow this is cool. OK...had a CT of Thorax and pelvis with contrast. The doctor can t meet with me until July 20, after I have a CT guided biopsy on 7/10. But today they gave me a copy of the CT with contrast. What does it mean when it says there is 2.2x1.6 cm left infrahilar lymph node?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

The hilum is the region where the lung attaches to the lower end of trachea. In your CT scan there is a 2.2 x 1.6 cm lymph node below the hilum on the left side.

Lymph nodes are small spherical areas of white blood cell concentration. When there is infection, inflammation or rarely in malignancy there is enlargement of these nodes. Your doctor wants to know the cause for the lymph node and CT scan biopsy is for confirmation. Please do not worry.
