What Do White Patches On The Tonsils Indicate?

White patches on tonsils for 6 days. Strep test 6 days ago was negative, but doctor prescribed cefdinir 300 mg/day, which I have taken for 5 days. Also gargling with salt water several times daily. White patches and swollen tonsils NOT better. What could it be? How long for cefdinir to help or could it be making it worse? Should I see my doctor and get patches cultured? Thank you for your information.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It can be a case of tonsillitis for which you have been prescribed antibiotic course.
Complete the course for it. Diluted Betadine gargles can also be done as it has viricidal action.
Avoid excess spicy food and Drink plenty of water.
If sore throat is present then decongestant also can be prescribed.
Take one tsp turmeric powder with milk daily.
Consult otorhinolaryngologist for examination and if there is no improvement then yes culture can be done by taking throat swab.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
