What Do These Ultrasound And CT Scan Reports Indicate?

I have had enlarged lymph nodes on the left side of my neck since Thanksgiving 2014. I am been on multiple antibiotics steroids. I will have severe pain on some day from the top of my head to my shoulder (most of the time it is just aching in my neck) . I have noticed that while I am having menses it seems to have a lot more pain. The steroids worked at first but do not anymore. I have ultra sound and a CT scan they both show nothing but enlarged lymph nodes and swollen close to vocal cords but that scan was in Feb. I am 27 around 200 lb. I take methyldopa for high BP, vitamin D and fish oil. I was wondering if there is any Gynecological explanation.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello, I will address the problem of the enlarged lymph nodes first. My advice is to get a fine needle aspiration cytology(FNAC) of the largest among the swollen lymph nodes. This procedure is a simple one and is often done on an out patient basis. A fine needle is inserted into the lymph nodes and cells are removed. This is later read by a cytopathologist. This FNAC or FNAB report will tell us whether your lymph node enlargement is due to infections, immunological problems or some malignant conditions such as lymphomas etc. If the cause is infectious then we can treat the infection .Similarly the others. If this test has been done before you may post your report here for further clarification . Hence my primary advice is to get an FNAC lymph node along with tests such as Complete blood count, peripheral blood smear , ESR and LDH tests.
Regarding the menstrual pain , there are many possibilities .It may be unrelated to your lymph node problems. Conditions such as endometriosis which are unrelated to the lymph node enlargement may cause pain. However if your lymph nodes are enlarged due to some infections such as tuberculosis such conditions may also affect the lining of the womb leading to chronic inflammation called chronic endometritis and pain. Certain cancers when they spread may cause pain however that is a rare possibility in your case. Certain immunological conditions also may cause period pain. The first step however is to get a fine needlle aspiration cytology of your lymph node as soon as possible if it has not been done before along with a complete blood count and peripheral smear. Should you require further assistance in interpreting your tests and reports please post them here so that I can assist you in obtaining as much information as you need regarding your medical problems. Best regards
