What Do These Pulmonary Test Results Indicate?

just got faxed results of pulmonary breathing test and have no idea what they mean and can t get a hold of doctor.forced vital capacity is 2.55 liters, FEV1 is 1.99 liters, and ration is 78%. There is no improvement after bronchodilators. Maximal voluntary ventilation is 61% of predicted. Diffusion capacity is 82..total lung capacity 139. Residual volume is 260% of predicted. Pt. has normal spirometry and diffusion capacity..there is air trapping without hyperinflation.

Hi,

The pulmonary test is a vital capacity test. Auscultation should be done to see if lungs function is alright. If there is inflammatory involvement in lungs including chronic bronchitis then there will be decreased lung capacity. X-ray PA view can be taken and the affected part can be demarcated. Then bronchodilator and antibiotic can be given. Then lung capacity can be estimated. Definitely there will be improvement.
