Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Basically her blood report indicates bicytopenia (low white cell and platelet counts). To comment on probable cause, I would like to get few more details.
Any precipitating factor like febrile illness / drug intake? Any symptoms like fever / weight loss / anorexia? Any presence of enlarged lymphnodes / spleen / liver on examination? How is the ESR?

Above details, along with peripheral smear report will give clue towards diagnosis. This may follow a viral illness like mononucleosis(but we usually expect some recovery by 2 months), or may indicate bone marrow suppression from drugs, or hematological conditions like lukemia and autoimmune condition like lupus (hence ANA was ordered). Your doctor will discuss in detail.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
