What Do These Cardiac CT Scan Test Results Indicate?

Just got the results from a HeartSmart CT scan. I am a 62 year old female, 115 lbs, runner, exerciser, never smoked. The Calcium score was 449.42, and the report states Extensive Plaque Burden . My cholesterol is 192, Trig. 71, HDL 98, LDL 80, Ratio 2.0. Should I be freaking out with that score?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The report is indicative of over burden of the plaque most likely due to:
- Hypercholesterolemia
- Obesity
- Diabetes
- Smoking
- Other reasons

There is nothing to panic for, but various therapeutic modalities with life style modifications do help a great to make the things smoother as:
- Control of body weight
- Control of blood sugar and cholesterol
- Regular aerobics, walking, swimming and routine activities
- Anti lipid therapy with atorvastatin or rosuvastatin
- Anti platelet drugs as clopidrogel or others
- Quit smoking if applicable
- Diet control to avoid all spices, non veg, dairy fat, junk items

Regular follow up with your cardiologist is best way to keep yourself fit and fine.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
