What Do These Blood Results Mean?

I am a 40 years female. Recently I started feeling tired and giddy so I got my blood checked. The results are: Haemoglobin - 8.8 gms%; RBC Count 3.6 M/cmm; and Total WBC 4900 /cmm; Normocytic - Mild Hypochromic; Platelet Count 2.1 lakhs/cumm. Can you help me in understanding these results, please.

Hello and welcome to HCM,

The hemoglobin level of 8.8 gm% is below the normal range.
In health hemoglobin should be above 12 gm%.
The red blood cell count is also on lower side.
The peripheral blood film shows features of normocytic hypochromic anemia.
This report suggests that you are suffering from anemia.
The red blood cells are normal in size but chromia or hemoglobinization is low.
This kind of blood picture is commonly seen in iron deficiency states.
However, iron profile especially serum iron and serum ferritin are required to confirm iron deficiency.

Iron supplements are required for iron deficiency.

The white blood cell counts and platelet count is within normal limit.

Consult your primary health provider with report, iron studies and prescription of medication.

Thanks and take care
