What Do These Blood And Urinalysis Reports Signify?

I recently had blood work done after a 15 hour fast to see if I qualify for a life insurance policy. The blood work indicated a gamma glutamyl transferase of 227 High, Glucose 139 High, and an A1C of 7.8 High. A urinalysis indicated a URN total protein of 16.0 High. I dont drink and am confused about these readings that indicate an unhealthy liver. I take blood pressure medicine (metoprolol 25 mg 2 x day) (losartan 50 mg. 1 x day)and also 3 Er 500 mg Metformin daily. I take a low dose baby asprin and also 1 aleve in the morning and one at night for arthritis. I also take 1, 1000 mg. D3 vitamin. I use lumigan drops once a day to prevent eye pressure. Would any of these medications be causing me to have these test results?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Understand your concern.

Your GGT is very high, it may be due to aspirin and diabetes

Following are causes of increased GGT:
1. Chronic liver disease (Along with GGT, other enzymes like AST,ALT and ALP and billirubin also increased)
2. Alcohol Addiction (Only GGT will increased)
3. Metabolic syndrome
4. Diabetic melitus type 2
5.Drugs: barbiturates, phenytoin, aspirin
6.Congestive heart failure

Glucose high: due to diabetes
Hb1 Ac: high suggest chronic diabetes
Urine protein : high suggest damage to glomeulus protein integrity barrier.
It may be due to kidney damage/nephropathy because of diabetes
Also check for Hypertension also.
Losartan help to prevent the proteinuria and prevent the kidney damage.

Take medicine, diet control and exercise regularly for diabetes.
For aspirin side effects consult your doctor and talk about change the drug or modify the dose to prevent hepatic toxicity

Hope this may help you
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
