Recently I expericened chest pains during exercise. I went to my doctor and he ordered blood tests. The results showed a low potassium level of 3.32 mmom/l (norms: 3.6-5.0), high Troponin 0.40 ug/l (norm: inferior to 0.033) and high TSH 0.913 mUI/l (norm: 0.380-4.310). The cardiologist I was sent to did not find any heart anomalies. The second control blood test revealed a result of Potassium 3.44 mmol/l and Troponin still at 0.040 ug/l. I was previously diagnosed for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and have been taking a combination hormone treatment of Androgen reducing hormone and Estradiol. Could my recent symptoms and test results indicate any other condition or problem? I would appreciate any input or help. I am a 30 year old female in otherwise good health.
Hello there, Based on your test reports and your young age the low potassium levels indicate a dietary deficiency . You can have bananas or coconut water. This would increase your potassium and also reduce any muscle damage or muscle pain that results from exercising. The elevated troponin levels are indicative of higher muscle activity. Something that happens during exercise. There is nothing that is a cause of worry. Hope this helps, Dr Arun A
