What Do Swollen Lymph Nodes In The Neck Indicate?
I have swollen lymph nodes in my neck. They did a ct scan and now the doctor wants to take one out. Why? don t you think she should check for some type of infection. I told her I had severe ear pain a while back. I also have a chipped tooth. Don t you think those things should be eliminated as a cause before evasive surgery?

Lymph nodes in the neck can be caused by infection, mostly from the dental infection (if a patient has problems with the teeth). Ear infection might cause lymph nodes in case the patient is having a viral infection causing both ear infection and the lymph node and also in case of external otitis. Lymph nodes in case of infection happen in the side of the infection and are tender lymph nodes that should go down with the antibiotic therapy and healing of the infection. If the lymph nodes are more than 2 cm in length, or not tender, they are hard to palpation and they happen even in the side that there is no infection very likely they are not related to infection and the doctor needs to take biopsy of the lymph node to know the cause of them.
