What Do Red Rashes On The Body Indicate?

Levothyroxine i have an underactive thyroid and i take levothyroxine for over a year. Ive had a swollen lymph node on the left side of my neck for 8 months. I see red blotches or small rashes appearing and disappearing in different places on my body also. My doctors ignore my symptoms i report. I even went to the emergency room my heart rate was elevated. and was sent home. I take the levothroxine everyday. Should i stop? Could these spots be lupus? I made an appointment to see a lupus doctor. Should i stop this medication for the underactive thyroid?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Once you have hypothyroidism you cannot stop thyroid medications. Your body isn't secreting enough thyroid. Hypothyroidism can have lot of problems like weight gain, lethargy, fatigue, Sensitivity to cold temperatures, depression, dry skin etc. I feel you may be having dry skin which is leading to rashes on your body. Try applying moisturizing cream or coconut oil regularly on the whole body. I guess with these measures you may be relieved of rashes. If still there is a problem you better consult a dermatologist who may test for allergies.
But in any case do not stop Levothyroxine without consulting your doctor. Regards,
Dr Sanjay Kini
