What Do Red Rashes On The Ankles Indicate?

I have had a red rash appear on both ankles and it recently went up to the calf area on an extended vacation that included several long plane trips. The rash seemed to appear along with the leg/ankle swelling. Rash had some itching. All has returned to normal now home. The rash has appeared sporadically in the past, not related to swelling and goes away in a few days. I used Cortisone cream this time and it seemed to help. Wondering if this is something to have checked out? I m otherwise a fairly healthy/active 64 year old female.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Long plain trips were reason for that, please go for blood pressure, ECG and chest x-ray for assessment of cardiac function. Also get checked for varicose veins.

In next tour do not keep your feet and leg passive for long. Do feet and legs movements at frequent intervals. In swelling just keep feet at elevated table and do not apply heat to swelling.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Varinder Joshi
