Took my four year old daughter to the doctor today. Flu test was negative. She has a rash on her cheeks and all over her body including trunk and extremities. My pediatrician said it was fifth disease. I m inclined to think different. She was seen 19 days ago for strep throat which was positive. So that is a warning sign to me. On top of that, she s having continual high fever even with ibuprofen and Tylenol. Up to 103.6 She has a stuffy and runny nose with blood in it and a very productive/wet sounding cough. She also seems to be constipated, says she needs to poop but doesn t. And she complains about her body hurting. Could it be scarlet fever or am I overreacting? This is my youngest of five kids and I m typically right on diagnosing and researching things, but this is new to me. Also, I read that some families are now susceptible to scarlet fever. My husband s grandfather had scarlet fever as a child and it caused serious problems for him with his heart. What are you thoughts?
