What Do Rashes On The Body And Sore Throat Indicate?

My 16-year-old son has a rash that started on his torso, but is spreading all over. He has a very sore throat with spots. We saw a doctor yesterday who ran a rapid strep test. It was negative, but she said she was not convinced. The full culture will not be back until tomorrow, but the rash is spreading. Should we be worried that we are not treating it with anything over than benadryl and tylenol at this point? Could it be something else? She mentioned scarlet fever in the appointment, but did not elaborate.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi...Thanks for considering Ask a doctor service
I understand your concern...
Scarlet fever is a bacterial infection no need to worry much your physician will start you in antibiotics...
I suggest T. Penicillin VK or erythromycin for 10 days....
Penicillin VK should be taken up with allergic shot test so should be taken under monitor...
Rest of the treatment with salt water gargling, benadryl and paracetamol should be followed up...
Hope your doubts are cleared
Take care
