What Do Persistent Dizziness And Heart Palpitations Indicate?
I am having persistent dizziness and heart palpitations. I take metoprolol for moderate HTN and Lexapro 20mg daily for depression. I wear hearing aids. I have had a gastric sleeve 3 years ago. I can't tell if it is cardiac related like atrial fib or ear infection related to hearing aids or a malabsorption syndrome causing my problems. What else can I check. My vitals are wnl 138/74 P 60 o2 99% no sob. Never had an abnormal EKG. I am stumped. Dehydration maybe? As a nurse and teacher I don't get much opportunity to drink adequate fluids. The sleeve doesn't help that either.

1. You should consult with a Cardiologist to exclude following symptoms:
i. Anxiety is the commonest cause of heart flutter but first one should exclude: . Hyperthyroidism (Thyroid function test) . Arrhythmias (ECG & Holter monitoring) . Left Ventricular Hypertrophy (Chest X-ray) . Diabetes (blood sugar to exclude hypoglycemia) . Anemia (Hemoglobin level)
PS. Check with a Cardiologist for ADR [adverse drug reaction] of Metoprolol [if any] and although lexapro [escitalopram] has been known to cause heart palpitations but rule any physical cause first.
2. If pulse & heart appear normal then the most important cause will be anxiety and will be managed accordingly.
