Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had spinal fusion surgery on 08/14/17. Needed a second surgery two weeks later to repair the incision. I had those stitches removed last Thursday. Over the weekend I started to develop lumps under the skin, which were painful, and today the lumps are huge - four of them about the size of golf balls and they are unbearably painful - on a pain scale of 1 to 10, pain is a TEN. I also have developed a fever of 101. I have taken 2 Percocet left from my surgery - not helping. I hesitate to call my neurosurgeon, as I don t know if this is an emergency or something which will go away.

What Do Painful Lumps On The Skin Indicate?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Where is the swelling? Is it at the surgery site? or other parts. If you developed fever along with swelling means infection or collection of pus at site. Without fever only swelling with pain probably bleeding or hematoma formation etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Don t wait please consult your neurosurgeon or other surgeon for follow up. Take care.
