What Do Pain Below The Rib Cage On The Left Side Indicate?

Pain below left rib. feels like a firm, swollen area that s sore to rub. Have recently been hospitalized for low RBC of 6.6. Was given 2 units of blood. Next norning it came up to 7.6. I was given a large iron iv injection, followed with 3 iron pills a day. by day 2 it was up to 8.0 when I was released. While in hospital, I received an Endoscopy which did not indicate bleed however it was gastric, & had a medium sized hernia at the top of my stomach. the pain under lower left rib has been over the last 2 days, and some serious stomach pains in the upper portion. Last Sun-Mon I experienced brown urine, which by today had cleared up. I ve never experienced that before. My Dr today was wondering if I might have an enlarged spline, with my explain my blood loss. Can you t ell me the functions of the spline, what an enlarged one can be caused from & how it would produce blood loss, that would show up in my stool?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

First spine and blood loss are not related. They are 2 very different systems. Swelling of the spine would cause neurological disorders like weakness and sensory symptoms.

As for the chest and stomach pain, it's probably due to the hernia. I think you have a hiatus hernia. Try Tab. Pantoprazole and syrup Sucralfate.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. Feel free to contact me if you need any further information.

Best wishes.
