What Do Pain And Swelling Behind The Ear Indicate?
I have had pain and swelling behind my ear for 3 weeks. I went to the GP and on inspection of my ear she could see no visible sign of infection. I was prescribed Otomize spray for 3 days and told to go back if there was no improvement. I felt it actually made the pain and swelling worse. I was prescribed Flucloxacillin 500mg. I have been taking for three days so far (the course is 7 days) and there is no improvement. Should I go back?
I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about your post ear pain.
As per your signs and symptoms it looks like either lymph node swelling or. Mastoiditis.
Painful lymph nodes are tender to touch and are associated with middle ear infection or scalp infection.
Mastoiditis is a bacterial infection and needs IV antibiotics for at least a week. You need to continue the medication as it regress slowly. If the condition does not improve you may need a CT scan for proper diagnosis and surgical intervention to drain the fluid.
Yes you can visit again to your ENT spacialist for further evaluation.
Hope my answer will help you. Regards Dr Muzaffar Hussain Parray.
