What Do My Ultrasound Scan Test Results Indicate?

Hello, I was just had an ultrasound of my right groin to check out a lump. The radiologist has diagnosed a right greater saphenous vein aneurysm, 2 cm. in diameter with turbulent flow, no evidence of thrombus in the aneurysm. I have been referred to a vascular surgeon but was told the appointments are booked 4-6 months out. I have no idea if this diagnosis requires immediate attention or if this problem can wait. Is this serious, moderate or mild? I have a history of superficial thrombophlebitis and varicose veins in that same leg. I am 72 years old and on BP meds, otherwise healthy. What would you advise me to do? Katharine Masterson

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Thanks you for asking this question. I have undergone through your question. I understand your concern. You are suffering from saphenous vein aneurysm which is abnormal bulging of saphenous vein. As there is turbulent flow also. Stagnation of blood in this bulge may cause clotting of blood and clotted blood may dislodge and travel to lung. In lung, it may cause pulmonary embolism which is a life threatening condition. So immediate attention is needed.
Advise
1. Contact vascular surgeon in your area
2. Contact any general practitioner in your area so that he can prescribe anti-clotting medicines
3. Continue taking BP medicine

I wish you a good health
