What Do My Lab Test Results Indicate?
Hello. I have Polycythemia, diagnosed in 2011. I cannot remember if the hemoglobin score is 3x the hematocrit score or vice-versa. I was originally diagnosed with a 26/78 hemo/hema score, but have been able to keep it around 15/45 with phlebotomies every 3-4 months. Can you remind me how the scores work, and which is the lower and which is the higher score? Thank you very much, Ron W.

Normally the Hb is the RBCx3 and Hct is Hbx3. For example, if RBC is around 4.5, Hb should be around 13.5 and Hct should be around 40.5.
Deviations from this may indicate abnormalities.
