Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
A rise in blood sugar during pregnancy is common in most women. We call this
gestational diabetes. The blood sugar always returns to normal after birth.Complications of gestational diabetes affect both the mother and the fetus.
-Fetal complications include: excessive birth weight due to too much glucose available for cells, early birth/
respiratory distress,
low blood sugar after birth since fetus is in contact with much sugar while in the womb.
-Maternal complications include: High blood pressure/preeclampsia, difficult delivery(dystocia) if
vaginal delivery considered with risk of post partum complications like hemorrhage.
The age of the fetus estimated by ultrasound is always greater than the normal calculated from the last menstrual period.
I will advise you see a Gynecologist/Obstetrician to follow you up till term and the best delivery options will be considered taking in to account you safety and that of the baby. Also, your Obstetrician may get the opinion of an
Endocrinologist on placing you on an oral antidiabetic or on insuline to help control your blood sugar if measures like healthy diet and regular exercises for pregnant women do not control it.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
