What Do Mildly Increased Platelet Count In The Below Peripheral Smear Report Suggest?

Hi doc i just wanna ask about the meaning of my peripheral smear and this is my result.RBCs are mostly normocytic,normochromic with mild anisipoikilocytosis.some ovalocytes are seen. No nucleated RBCs WBCs are adequate (2-3/hpf) with predominance of neutrophils,no immature cell seen.Diff CT: seg 72 lym 21 mono 3 eo 4. Platelets are mildly increased (18-25/OIF) with no large and giant forms noted RETICuLocyte count :2.1 Normal values : 0.5-1.5 Pls.correlate clinically Thats my laboratory result whats the meaning of that doc. Helllo, thanks for asking on healthcaremagic. Your peripheral smear along with mildy high reticulocyte count suggests that some immature RBCs are circulating in blood. It usually occurs when there is a stimulus for increased production like taking iron or other haematinics or haemorrhage/blood loss. These immature rbcs cause no harm and eventually mature but are used to judge the bone marrow function. Platlelets are mildly increased and generally they do not pose a problem unless they remain elevated persistently. It is better to go in for a complete blood count which will give you exact values of hb and platelets for further clarification. Thanks.
