What Do Itchy Rashes On The Arms Indicate?

Hello! My co worker and I share an office. We just traveled to a conference together. She had an itchy rash on her arms and discovered she has shingles. I wore one of her sweaters one night because I was cold. Was I exposed to the virus? Can I contract it as well? I had chicken pox as a child and so did she. Thank you for any info you can provide me :-) Kelly Gray

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The Varicella zoster virus, which is responsible for chickenpox and shingles, can be spread by direct contact with fluid from the small blistery rash that occurs with shingles.

It can cause chickenpox in those who have not previously been infected with Varicella zoster virus.

If you did not had contact with fluid probably shingles is not the cause of your symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
