Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Had a PSA test last fall that was slightly elevated so my Dr recommended we do another one. It also came back elevated. Last fall was 5.9 and last week was 5.9. I am 59. I went to a protoligist (or whatever he would be called that handles this type of thing) and he said pretty close call on whether to do a biopsy or not. What pros and cons? Thanks.

What Do Elevated PSA Levels Indicate?
Hello, High prostate level can be a sign of conditions like prostate cancer. However it is also elevated in inflammatory conditions like prostitis. It is better to go for a prostate biopsy. Consult a urologist and he will direct you accordingly. It is a simple procedure and can be done under local anesthesia. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
