What Do Cramps In The Hands Indicate?

Hi. I intermittently have cramps in one hand or the other and some times I hurt from above the wrist in to the palm in both hands. I have seen a rheumatologist who did ultra sound with a follow-up one and he ruled out RA. The pain is muscular and not in the joints. I have no other signs of arthritis. My doctor seems to be at a loss, except for me having some kind of test that assesses nerve/neurological function. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to `Ask A Doctor` service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

* If the condition is similar for both hands, I doubt for the nerve
compression at cervical spine level.

* After thorough evaluation, an MRI of the cervical spine would be of
immense importance for the particular diagnostic approach.

Thanks.
Regards.
