What Do Chest Pain, Shortness Of Breath, Pain And Numbness In Legs Indicate?

My husband is 39 yrs old. He is 5 11 and weighs about 260 lbs. About a month ago, he was suddenly feeling lightheaded and dizzy periodically throughout the day and frequently complains of chest pains or tightness in his chest, but chalks it up to anxiety. Last night, he was having those pains along with shortness of breath, pain in his legs and numbness in his hands and a low grade fever of 100.3. Today, he is still experiencing the shortness of breath and leg pain. Should he go to the ER?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, he should be assessed. It is possible that anxiety can contribute to some of the symptoms but it is the last diagnosis considered after physical conditions are ruled out.

Anxiety can cause chest pain and shortness of breath but usually not numbness or pain in the legs. He may need an ECG and blood tests (such as complete blood count, ESR which looks for inflammation, liver and kidney function tests).

I hope this helps.
