Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Blisters Near The Corner Of The Mouth Indicate?
I have some clear blister like bumps near the corner of my mouth. Sometimes they itch. I am concerned that it could be impetigo or at best peri-oral acne. I am trying to get an appointment at a dermatologist. Is there something I should do in the meantime
As per your complain the symptoms of clear blisters near the corner of mouth can be due to Herpes virus infection causing cold sores. I would suggest you to consult an oral physician or dermatologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like microscopic examination of scraping from the corners of lips and blood tests can help in diagnosis.
Appropriate treatment can be done accordingly. In case of viral infection you can be advised antiviral medication like Acyclovir to be taken orally along with topical antiviral ointments. As of now apply thick coat of petroleum jelly over the lips. Beeswax containing lip balm can also help. Do cool compresses over the corners of lips.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
