What Do LDL And Cholesterol Levels In The Below Blood Test Report Suggest?

My latest blood test indicates that my LDL calculated is 165 cholesterol HDL/ratio 3.9 HDL 63 cholesterol total 247 non HD cholesterol 184 age 61 female Should I be worry? My Doctor suggested more exercise and better eating. The fact is that I do eat healthy not just now but for a very long time. I m not a smoker or drinker and I am not overweight.

Hi, thanks for asking on healthcaremagic. Your total cholesterol is high. Apart from it your LDL is also high. HDL is in good range. There are basically two types of cholesterol which affect the vessels. LDL is the bad cholesterol which is responsible for thickening and atherosclerosis of the vessels. HDL is the good cholesterol which helps in removing built up cholesterol plaques in the vessels. It is ideal to maintain LDL below 100 and below 80 if you are on cholesterol lowering drugs. You can consult your doctor to start a low dose statin ie lipid lowering drug. This will reduce your LDL levels. Eating diet low in saturated fats and high in omega 3 fatty acids will be helpful along with it. Hope this information was helpful
