What Diet To Be Followed During Hypothyroidism?

Hi,

Is it correct that a person with Hypothyrodism will never be cured and should be on thyronorm all life.. I take 75mcg of thyronorm daily. And also if you could tell about what to eat and what not to. I drink coconut water daily. should I stop doing so.

I am 34 yrs old and am 5'2" and weigh 68 kgs.

Thanks,

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello,
The most common cause of underactive thyroid or hypothyroidism is an autoimmune disorder called ''Hashimoto thyroiditis''.
It is a chronic disease that destroys the thyroid gland and as a result it looses its ability to produce hormones.
At this point they should be taken orally.
There is no remedy that can recuperate the thyroid tissue, so there is no diet that can help.
All you have to do is to take levothyroxine regularly and check the TSH level to be sure that you are taking the right dose.
