What Could Stabbing Pain In Feet With Feeling Of Cold Burn Suggest?

Hi, I am trying to determine what may be wrong with me. I have had feelings in my feet and most recently my lower leg. Its hard to describe it. Its a feeling of cold burn. I put my socks on and then not too long after have to take them off. It affects the top of my feet more. It keeps me up at night. When I touch my feet they do not feel cold but I feel like I need to have them always covered. Swimming is not enjoyable anymore. My regular doctor checked the pulse in my foot and said it was good. I just don t know what I should do and what kind of a doctor I should see? I am not a diabetic. I do have hypothyroid. I have been experiencing this for about 5 years know but it has gotten worse over the last year. Sometimes I get sharp stabbing pains too. I wondered if this was a nerve problem. Do you know what I may have?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

The abnormal sensations that you have are termed peripheral neuropathy. Peripheral Neuropathy is a condition caused by damage to the peripheral nervous system [most commonly seen in diabetic patients]. Another possibility could be nerve compression in spine due to disc bulge.
Change your diet and remove inflammatory foods such as citrus fruits, dairy products and wheat that may aggravate the condition. Simultaneously increase your intake of potassium and calcium-rich foods such as bananas and avocados and green leafy vegetables
Vitamin B12 is important in the maintenance of health and normal functioning of the nerve tissue and deficiency of it can lead to numbness. You can increase B12 level by taking meat and fish, or you can take tab methylcobalamine .

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
