What Could Spotting And Brown Discharge While On Implanon Indicate?
Hi. I have a little concern. I have been on implanon for one year and a half. I missed my periods for nine months after the implanon then I started bleeding from last December for six days then there after I have been spotting and seeing brown discharge. Few weeks ago I visited a dr and he prescribed progynova tablets. I have been using them for ten days today but still no changes. It is very annoying. What s happening to me?

As per my clinical experience, the spotting and brown vaginal discharge may be in relation with various possibilities as:
- Hormone irregularity
- Progesterone deficiency
- Vaginal infection
- Pelvic inflammatory conditions
- Low hemoglobin
- Others
The Implanon contains estrogen, used for hormone replacement therapy, premenopausal symptoms and others, but not routinely to get withdrawal bleeding in spotting cases. In my clinic, I do recommend a 5 days course of Progestin only or combined contraceptive pills, after which you will get withdrawal bleed within next 7 working days. However, a cervical swab, ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis are necessary to get further directions of guidelines.
