What Could Low Potassium Level Mean After Being On Potassium Pills?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...I was on blood pressure medicine for around 4 years Hyrdrothrochlrozide? about 2 months ago I began feeling lightheaded all day, went to Dr and he took me off, did blood work and my potassium was 3.1, put me on potassium pills, week later the same levels, so he double the amount, levels went up to 3.7, went back 2 weeks later to check levels again and have dropped to 3.1 again, why do they continue to stay low when on the potassium pill? Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Continued use of hydrochlorthiazide is causing potassium reduction.
2. Along with it, minimal absorption is possible. Antacids can reduce absorption of potassium
3. Potassium binders will be helpful to improve potassium absorption. Discuss with your doctor regarding this medication. Diet improvement with banana, avocada, nuts, fish, eggs will be helpful in improving serum potassium.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
I find this answer helpful
