What Could Little Pin Pricks Like Red Dots On Neck And Face Of A Toddler Indicate?

My two year old has what looks to be a hickey on this neck and both sides of his face . He is just fine and he has not been bothered by it. It is little red dots on that look just like a thin hickey or little pin pricks . What could this be ? What should I do? It does not look bad just odd to me.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query your toddler have little pin pricks red dots on neck and face is due to petechial rash. These rashes causes bleeding into the skin layers that is why red/purple spots occur that don't blanch on pressure.

Meningococcal infection, blood infections, clotting system issues causes these petechiae to forms on skin of toddler.

I would suggest you not to worry about this. This occurs commonly in children due to lack of immunity. You should visit general practitioner once and get proper immunization done.

Get your toddler's blood test done to rule out any malignant lesion. Glass test is the best test to examine these dots.

Symptoms will resolve with in 1-2 weeks after proper immunization. You should take diet rich in vitamin B12 and multivitamins so that child can receive all nutrients properly.

If symptoms keeps on persisting visit dermatologist once and get patch test done.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
