What Could It Be If Smelling A Kind Of Smoke All The Time?

Hello, recently for the past couple of days I ve been smelling a smoke smell, almost like cigarette smoke kinda; I smell it all the time, I don t know what can be causing it. I also had noticed I have a somewhat swollen lymph node on the left side of my neck. (I m not sure what cause cause that or if smoking weed can cause that). I m wondering if it s a neurological problem because I only get it once I ve been exposed to cigarette smoke or a place where cigarette smell is present. Sometimes I ask people if they can smell it and they say they haven t.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have smelling a kind of smoke all the time which is known as Phantosmia which occurs mainly due to olfactory hallucinations. It could be due to obsessive compulsive disorder, acid reflux , bowel obstruction, poor oral hygiene , oral infection like gingivitis , sinusitis , nervous system dysfunction. You should take tablet Desvenlafaxine daily and your symptoms will resolve in one month. I would suggest you to consult neurologist/ psychiatrist once and get it examined for proper examination and diagnosis and then start treatment accordingly if your symptoms keeps on persisting. You should visit gastroenterologist as well. Doctor prescribe you for barium swallow study. You should maintain proper oral hygiene. Take diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables. drink plenty of water along with that take green tea 2-3 times a day.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
